The V&A Waterfront

The Waterfront has so much to offer that it actually deserves its own post! Here are our top 5 picks for visitors:

1. Shopping: The main shopping centre offers more than 200 stores, from luxury international brands to local finds. There are also other shopping areas scattered throughout the V&A Waterfront. 
2. The Two Oceans Aquarium: The aquarium is home to penguins, seals, and various local fish species. The highlight is the Predator Exhibit that houses ragged-tooth sharks, turtles and rays. There is also a Touch Pool, a big hit with the little ones.
3. The Cape Wheel: A giant Ferris wheel with 30 cabins that offers spectacular views of Cape Town.
4. Dine at the Waterfront: Whether you are looking for a fast food outlet or fine dining, you will not be disappointed - there is something for every palate and budget. If possible, experience Makers Landing, a food business incubator and food market, on Fridays to Sundays between 10:00 and 21:00.
5. The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA): A multi-level space with 100 galleries, a rooftop sculpture garden and an educational centre, this museum showcases and promotes contemporary African Art. 

Robben Island Museum

Robben Island is a stark reminder of South Africa's past. But it is also a symbol of the triumph of the human spirit. After a short ferry ride from the V&A Waterfront, a former inmate will guide you while on the island, providing unparalleled insight into the role this island and its inmates played in the history of our country. 

My three biggest tips for anyone planning to visit Table Mountain are:

1. Do not leave it to the last day of your visit! The weather in Cape Town is rather unpredictable and strong winds and bad weather may result in the Cable Way being closed. 
2. Do not venture too far from the cable station; even though this is in the middle of a city, it is still a mountain and many people need to be rescued after they got lost every year. There is plenty to see even if you stick to the paths.  
3. Come prepared. The mountain is 1086 m high, and the weather up there is very different to that at, for example, the V&A Waterfront. Remember your jacket and a hat and wear good shoes. 

Cape Point

The Cape Point section of the Table Mountain National Park offers dramatic cliffs, panoramic views, a 150-year-old lighthouse, nature walks and the opportunity to swim in a tidal pool. It is impossible to not be blown away by its ruggedness and beauty. 

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

This 36-hectare garden on the slopes of Table Mountain is often called the most beautiful garden in Africa. With various well-marked trails, paths and routes to explore, large patches of grass perfect for picnicking, various restaurants and cafés and Summer Concerts on Sunday evenings, you can easily spend hours at this green oasis in the middle of the city. 

Groot Constantia

South Africa is world-renowned for our wines, and THIS is where it all started. Groot Constantia, established by Simon van der Stel in 1685, is the oldest wine-producing estate in the country. Explore the grand Manor House museum, taste the famous wines at one of two tasting rooms, dine at one of two restaurants or explore the estate on foot.
